While many employers and HR professionals are familiar with the ins and outs of the ADA, the accommodation process for tricky conditions like mental health disorders, chronic intermittent conditions and pregnancy/childbirth can through the most seasoned HR professional for a loop. Now, with the recent addition of the Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act and enhance protections for pregnant employees, the rules are even harder to understand. In this presentation, Denise Elliott will cover PWFA 101, with particular focus on employee requests, the interactive process and the enhanced accommodations required by the law. Denise will then discuss the interplay between the PWFA and the ADA, to help you feel empowered in handling all accommodation requests by your pregnant employees. Finally, Denise will address some of the most common mistakes employers make in dealing with tough ADA issues, touching particularly on mental health accommodations and service animal accommodation requests.

Bio: As a member of the McNees Labor and Employment Practice Group, Denise focuses her practice on defending employers in workers compensation matters and providing representation and counsel to clients in employment discrimination/harassment litigation, ADA/FMLA compliance, drug and alcohol testing and workplace safety and health issues.
