It is challenging for plan administrators to know if they are in compliance, in light of the immense regulatory complexities impacting employee retirement benefit plans today.  The Department of Labor (DOL) enforces ERISA compliance through detailed and time-consuming audits and collects more than $1 billion in compliance penalties annually - many of which are preventable. Being fully prepared is key.  Even small errors can cause significant and costly problems. 

During this session we will go through the common mistakes we see when we are performing an audit of a defined contribution plan, how to avoid those mistakes and what to do when you find a mistake.

Stambaugh Ness

Nikki has 20 years of public accounting experience and has been involved in a variety of engagements with a concentration in auditing. Nikki has full oversight for all employee benefit plan audits. Nikki is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. At Stambaugh Ness, she is the Accounting and Auditing Service Line Director for Profit and ERISA engagements. Nikki served as a team leader on the committee responsible for transitioning the firm to a “paperless” environment. Prior to her employment with Stambaugh Ness, Nikki was employed in Pittsburgh by KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, where her main concentration was audit engagements for the manufacturing and distribution industry and employee benefit plan audits. She is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and is a member of the National Association of Professional Women. She serves as the ‘Designated Partner’ of SN for our association with the AICPA’s Employee Benefit Audit Quality Center. Nikki was named as one of Central Pennsylvania’s Forty Under 40 in 2009. This award honors forty young business leaders under the age of 40 who share a commitment to professional excellence and the community. Nikki was named as one of Central Pennsylvania’s Top 25 Women of Influence in 2012. This award honors 25 women who have made significant positive impacts in business and their communities.
